When Zhou was admitted to the Xiangya Hospital, soon the doctors realized so it was quite difficult to attach the severed hand right back in its original place. Tang said, “There were great risks to reattach the hand back directly to the arm, as tissues of the severed [area] were greatly damaged.”
For keeping the tissues alive, Tang and the surgical team instead grafted Zhou's hand to his lower right calf. The team helped connecting the hand to the region's blood vessels, for keeping the tissues alive. The surgery took a lengthy duration that ranged to 10 hrs. However it's not too this type of typical grafting case was a new one for these Chinese doctors. Similar case had already happened when in November 10, 2013, another worker met with this type of typical accident, following which the surgeons attached severed hand to leg, quite like Zhou, beneath the suggestion of Mr. Tang.
In another case, some Chinese surgeons have already been reported to own had reattached the fingers of a female immediately after another work accident.
